Please enjoy the first chapter of my newly published children’s book, Ponder Tales, illustrated by Rosalie Huxford.
Ponder
Ponder huddled closer to his big brother, Winter, who was already snoring under their fur covers. It was cold tonight, colder than usual. He could hear Mama and Papa talking in whispers across the tent about how it was likely tomorrow would welcome the first snow and how the first snow always reminded them of the day Winter was born.
The first snow day! Ponder hadn’t known that
Winter had been born on a first-snow day. So this must be why he was given his name. Is that how babies get their names? Where did his name come from?
“Mama. Papa! Does my name mean something?” Ponder sat up on one elbow and looked at his parents who sat huddled together near the fire in the middle of their tent.
“Oh, you’re still awake!” Papa looked over at Ponder. His eyes sparkled in the light of the dying fire.
“My name. What does it mean anyway?”
